What do friends usually say to their buddies who might want to drop by for some company?
Come by whenever! I’ll leave the door open for you!
That’s exactly what Jesus says to us all the time too (Rev 3:8)! He is our very best friend and holds no grudges because great friends never do that—right?
His door is open constantly to us (John 10:9), welcoming us into His opulent—yet so comfortable—household that He leaves unlocked (Mt 16:18-19) so that we can drop by at any time (whenever it’s convenient).
Actually, since His work is done, He’s always resting (Mt 11:28-30) and chilling out on His front porch swing (Heb 1:3), chatting with folks walking by because everyone is His friend (2 Cor 5:19; Prov 8:1-4, 10-11, 18-19, 34-35).
Really, who can’t help but like this friendly guy?
When some of His friends finally get a chance to drop by, and they are so exhausted from their day that they don’t have any energy left to chat with Him, He just meets them at the door and carries them up to a cozy room that He’s already prepared for them to rest in (John 14:2-3).
When they wake up refreshed, they discover they’re still in His house and that He’s laid out a delicious hot meal and bubbly drinks that will fully satisfy and perk them up (Lk 12:37, Ps 23:1-2,5).
This delicious hot meal and bubbly drinks include His forgiveness and justification, electrifying life, joy unspeakable, peace like a gentle river, comfort and security that are out of this world.
Boy, those aren’t even His desserts!
We don’t have to wait until we’re worn out to drop by and see Him, of course.
However, He’ll absolutely receive and care for us in any state we arrive in (Lk 10:33-34). We don’t need to tear the roof off to get into His house, but we can if we want to.
It would be so much easier for us to realize beforehand that Jesus has already paid for it all—so His door (and windows) are always open (Mal 3:10)!
